Tis the season for some good hair, and celebrity New York hairstylist and makeup artist Monae Everett is giving us just that! With over 14 years of experience in the business, Monae’s work has graced the pages of some of the most coveted beauty magazines. Her styles have been featured on Project Runway in addition to the runways of New York Fashion Week. Monae Everett is also the key hairstylist of the film “Seasons of Love” premiering on Lifetime this weekend.
Airing on November 23rd at 9pm on Lifetime, Seasons of Love takes a look into the life of Kyla (played by Letoya Luckett from Single Ladies & Destiny’s Child fame) and Amir (Cleo Anthony from Divergent). Their fairly new romance is tested by not only the death of Amir’s father, but from Miles (played by Rob Riley from Hit the Floor) an ex boyfriend of Kyla’s. In this story of life, love and family, the couple seeks to find out if they can survive these tests of their relationship and see if they can find their own happily ever after.
Oscar winner, Taraji P Henson, not only stars in the film but also is the executive producer of Seasons of Love. She plays the cheerful and carefree Jackie so Monae gave her a fun hairstyle to match her character. Using Bumble and Bumble products help to “keep each style voluminous and touchable”. Taraji’s hair was kept both smooth and bouncy by using some of B&B’s Defrizz which smooths and tames your hair leaving it shiny and soft.
Letoya’s character, Kyla is a career woman about her business. Her no nonsense attitude called for the chic flowy loose curls. Monae made sure to keep every hair in place using a pomade to smooth out any flyaways and the Redken Shine Flash Spray in order to achieve those shiny tresses.
Gladys Knight plays the matriarch of the family so Monae kept her short chic hairstyle by using a ¾ inch flat iron to get her right. With the help of Redken’s Shine Flash Spray and Sebastian’s Reshaper Spray Mrs. Knight looks fierce just like our favorite auntie.
Shannon Kane’s (Imani in the movie) gorgeous curly locs were maintained using products from Deva Chan. Her hair was prepped daily by cleansing with the No Poo and conditioning with the Heaven in Hair. Kane’s curls were then set with the Arc Angel Gel and Monae would throw a braid in it to “highlight Imani’s romantic personality”.
Ana Isabelle plays the vivacious Randi, so of course Monae played her up to the part. Using the Bumble and Bumble Defrizz and Shwarzkoft Grip mouse to blow dry her hair allowed her to style it many different ways. From flat ironed straight to pin curls to achieve the big sexy wavy look, Monae was able to add shape, hold and volume to each of Randi’s styles.
I love family oriented holiday movies like this one so I know I’ll be curled up in bed watching this with babe this weekend, how about you? Tune in to Lifetime this Sunday, November 23, 2014 and see Monae’s work in action.
