The Ultimate Relaxer Stretch Setback | Don’t Drink + Style #BlameItOnTheGoose

During a relaxer stretch you are dealing many different hair textures; especially when texlaxing because no two ever comes out the same.  With the various textures comes more lines of demarcation that you want to be aware of so you don’t risk the point of breakage in those areas where your hair is weaker.  Well let me tell y’all, I had one hell of a time last week washing my 5 months post texlaxed hair.  I’m talking tangles, single knot strands major shedding and all.  This was the worst Wash Day Experience I’ve had since I got over my issue with shedding last time.

Remember that?? See Related Post | ApHogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor

The initial detangling process prewash went pretty good.  I used my normal scalp massage treatment with my Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strong Roots Red Pimento Growth Oil.  To help with detangling I used (and loved btw!) the V05 Strawberry Moisturizing Conditioner after watching Traycee’s (KissSeventySeven on YouTube) video (you can watch it too here ).  I used to use the V05 conditioner more for cowashing but it made so much sense to also use as a detangler since it provides so much slip for your hair.

(FYI – (I don’t know what’s going on with the photos in this post?!  It’s so frustrating but I am still going to roll with it for now, it’s a good story LOL))

I was able to easily glide through my hair and had minimal shedding while doing so.  So far sounds like an okay wash day right?  Wrong, proceed to read all of the ways that I played myself during this wash day.

So about that prepoo…

This prepoo ended up staying in my hair for a week!!!  Well damn near a week, it was 6 days to be exact.  Yes I threw on my wig cap and been wearing my unit as if I didn’t need to wash my hair.  I knew I had a 3 day weekend coming up and figured I’d get around to washing my hair then.

So now it’s the weekend, me and babe’s birthday weekend mind you. Now we always turn up at home since we have the 3 little ones, we’ll throw on our music (of course I’m the best DJ, have you seen my Music Monday’s?!) and drink some adult beverages (in the words of Fabulous Patron you my ni**a) so that’s what was going down on this fine Saturday night.  Our birthday wasn’t until Monday but why not get the party started early right?

I was already on my second cup when I decided to jump in the shower and wash my hair.  I know y’all thinking, where they do that at? Granted, I did run my fingers through my hair before wetting it but I know for sure it wasn’t a proper detangling the way it should have been.  I don’t recall having any issues though when I finally rinsed out that prepoo that I had going on from days past.  The problem came when I was using a new shampoo and conditioner.  Yeah at 5 months post, I had the nerve to be dipping into the unknown; under the influence mind you!

nuNAAT Garlic Magic Shampoo, Conditioner & Hair Mask

I touched on my experience with the nuNAAT Garlic Magic products in my latest unboxing video; the first Curlkit subscription box I received posted earlier this week.  (You can check out that video if you’d like here on the Kay’s Ways YouTube channel).  My hair normally prefers the usage of sulfate free or moisturizing shampoos which this product definitely is not.  I can say the shampoo didn’t overly strip my hair or dry it out but my hair instantly like tightened up and shrunk which normally does’t happen.

With my regular Creme of Nature Sulfate Free Shampoo I am usually still able to run my fingers down the shaft of my hair during rinsing.  This was not the case with the nuNAAT Garlic products.  I was even scared to try without losing too much hair (that’s how I know more detangling was necessary before washing my hair so I can’t even blame it on the shampoo).

The packaging for the nuNAAT Garlic shampoo states it’s for stronger, healthier hair and it was strong alright; holding on for dear life to my head strong which would usually be a good thing but I don’t know I just didn’t like the way it felt.  Still wasn’t giving up though so I moved on to the conditioner.

If you saw my #Love2COCOTIQUE giveaway winners from this post, you know I won a full sized bottle of nuNAAT’s Garlic Magic Conditioner.  Since we always tend to use more conditioner when washing our hair I ditched the foiler of that and cracked open the bottle. (sorta like the vodka I was sipping on CTFU!).  Remember I got a little buzz going on and I’m scared to run my fingers though so you can only imagine how long it took me to work my way around my head detangling with the Garlic Magic Conditioner.  I do remember by the time I finished detangling the 2nd half of my head the first had started to dry up.  After rinsing my curls was popping’ though.

The nuNAAT Garlic Magic conditioner wasn’t so bad; it didn’t give the most slip but it was workable but my hair was still striveled up and tight.  I did notice upon rinsing though my hair was super soft, attributed to the garlic in the conditioner.  It smelled really fresh and it wasn’t dry so I wouldn’t mind using this conditioner again.  I would most likely use it in addition to a moisturizing conditioner since the nuNAAT products are more protein based for their strengthening properties.  Good to know because if you saw my recent Hair + Beauty Empties video, I’m all out of my favorite protein conditioner at the moment.

Now usually I’d t shirt dry for at least 15 minutes before applying anything to it but nope, I’m buzzed and rushing back to my cup right lol.  So I jump out the shower wrap the t shirt around my head, dried off the rest of my body off grab my cup on the way back to the room where I proceed to immediately (probably not even 5 minutes later, I was still in my towel) slap the nuNAAT Garlic Magic Hair Mask in my head.

The cold from my hair being wet plus the conditioner is what made me say to myself “Oh hell no” but it was already too late, besides I had a party to get back to with babe.  So I proceeded to drench my hair with the mask which probably didn’t even stick to my head.  That’s the reason why I prefer to allow the hair to dry before applying anything.  If it’s full of water, how can it absorb the ingredients you’re actually applying right?!  So for that reason I’m gonna save my thoughts on this nuNAAT Garlic Hair Mask for a later date; you know when it actually penetrates my hair.

The plastic bag and my Hot Head Deep Conditioning cap (yes I did take the time to warm it up in the microwave, shoot my head was cold I told you lol) went on my head and that was the end of me doing my hair for the night.  But trust this story is definitely not over.

You made me cackle about the alcohol. I hope you wash day ended better than it started. Well you know my story over my last stretch and i’m seeing improvements already in the health of my hair.

    • Kay’s Ways

Girl I had to run my oils through my hair like every other day since his wash just to make up for lost time lol

  • I about DIED when you said your “pre-poo” lasted a week! Bahaha! And the alcohol situation. LOL! I guess I shouldn’t be laughing but your post had me rolling girl! I definitely hope the wash ended on a good note. Can’t wait to find out!! 🙂

    • Kay’s Ways

It’s ok lady, I’m laughing right along with you! Definitely stay tuned

  • I know that I shouldn’t laugh but GIRL you had me in tears! AND I can’t totally relate to the “extended pre-poo” situation. LOL. When that happens to me, I call it just a moisture and seal session. LOL.

    Xoxo, Nyx

    • Kay’s Ways

Oh wow, glad I’m not alone lol

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

Yikes, you poor girl! What a saga! Even with much easier hair to wash and condition, I’ve never tried it under the influence, lol. FYI, consider trying a Hubalou hair wrap instead of the T shirt for drying. It’s made of super-soft bamboo fiber instead of cotton or microfiber so it is especially gentle on hair. And it’s not expensive and lasts forever.

    • Kay’s Ways

That sounds interesting. Microfiber is great gonna have to look into that cloth

  • I’m so sorry girly. Your story is so suspenseful and so well written. You had/have me on the edge of my seat. And, this line right here — Wanna know what happened next? Subscribe here to the Kay’s Ways blog and be the first to know when the rest of the story is live! — had me like, you really just gonna leave us hanging? 🙂 I will stay tuned.

    • Kay’s Ways

Lol thanks girl. It definitely was a story I had to tell

  • Hair set backs are all I experience, which is why I stick to my box braids and crochet braids…it takes patience though 🙂

    • Kay’s Ways

Definitely takes patience, for the Winter I’ll probably be going back to braids too, I’m all for low maintenance

  • First time visiting your blog. I hope your hair is doing better now.

    • Kay’s Ways

Thanks for stopping by! This week’s wash was soooo much better, stay tuned for more

  • Yep, I colored my hair a few months ago and I’m now paying for it. I think we all have setbacks with our hair. It’s just part of life, but we pick up the strands and keep it moving!

    • Kay’s Ways

Definitely! Setbacks are inevitable and I sure set myself up for this one.

  • Tee Joe

Girl!!!! I am scared for you… I am sure you will be back on point in no time. Atleast you had some good dranks… 🙂

    • Kay’s Ways

      Lol yes definitely.

  • Ursula Ball

Lord have Mercy what a nightmare!! At least you didn’t get a tatoo on your face or something that you would truly regret!! My worst hair experience is when my hair became so tangled that my former stylist cut my long hair (I had 2 inches left afterwards). My mom was so shocked she demanded who did this but I will never tell the stylist name!

CTFU right, I made it out easy. Wow I was always in fear of a stylist with scissors, thankfully it all grows back
