I know we’re well past the Fall and into the Winter season but you wouldn’t know it if you’ve been experiencing this New York weather. I’ll tell you what knew about the change of seasons immediately though, my skin! It seemed like once September hit my more oily skin dried right back up like normal. It was time to change up my skincare routine so for the past few months I’ve been trying out some items from Paula’s Choice Skincare and I’m here to share my experiences with you.
Now a little back story, ever since I was a little kid I’ve had eczema; a skin condition that that causes an inflammation of the skin which can be hella itchy and flaky. Everyone who knows me knows I have terrible allergies (all year round allergies – sheesh) and unfortunately having eczema goes right along with it.
What’s even worst is for some reason, my insurance all of a sudden stopped paying for the medication I used to treat it but since my youngest son Jreu has it as well, I just share his with him. Over the years with visits to the dermatologist he’s always said you should grow out of it but yeah I’m well into my 30’s and apparently it likes me. The funny thing is according to WebMD, only 3% of people still have it in their adult lives. Ain’t that something, I couldn’t be part of the 3% of the richest people in the world, I’m just saying
I’ve been really into taking care of my skin and with the change of seasons and the fact that I actually saw the change in my drying skin I knew it was time to get a new skincare routine. Knowing my issues, the good people over at Paula’s Choice Skincare was able to handpick some things that would help my the skincare conditions that I have been experiencing. No matter what type of skin you have, Paula’s Choice Skincare has a remedy for you and can tailor your skincare concerns to find what your skin needs.
Still don’t feel confident enough? Check out their website HERE and have a live chat or call them to tell them with your concerns. With their current 15% plus free shipping promo they have going on right now through January 5, 2015 it’s definitely a good time to check out what Paula’s Choice Skincare has to offer. Now let’s take a look into the products that have been keeping my skin on fleek.
From the Paula’s Choice Skincare Website
“Our new and improved Skin Recovery Cleanser formula is thicker, creamier, and feels more cushiony on sensitive skin while still calming and soothing skin as it cleans.”
The Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Cleanser is a really gentle cleanser. As a matter of fact, the Skin Recovery line from Paula’s Choice is formulated for individuals with sensitive breakout prone skin conditions including rosacea, redness and folks with eczema like me. This fragrance free creamy cleanser reminds me more of a lotion; it doesn’t lather up much which is great because soap will definitely dry your skin out more. I can also tell by the way my skin feels that it’s definitely helping to moisturize my skin since it doesn’t leave you with that tightness that you feel like you’re skin is feening for lotion. The Skin Recovery cleanser is way more gentle yet still yields an effective cleaning. After rinsing my skin feel nice, clean and really soft. I use this everyday with no irritation or side effects and it has definitely helped my skin to feel soft and supple. Exactly what you need if you want to have a nice smooth canvas to play in makeup right?!
“This gentle, leave-on exfoliant rapidly unclogs pores, diminishes wrinkles and improves skin tone for unbelievably smooth, radiant skin.”
Now I must admit, using a toner in my skincare regimen is definitely my weakest link. I’m not completely consistent when using this product. For me I basically use toner on a need to do basis, I just go with the flow. I might use the liquid exfoliant maybe once every two weeks now. Back in September when I originally got the products, I found myself reaching for it more often because my oils (or sweat or whatever) left my face feeling like I just needed a little something extra. The Skin Perfecting Liquid Exfoliant is definitely a good look for that reason. During that time of the month my skin acts up so that’s when I tend to reach for it now.
I think the reason why I skipped out on toning in the past was the face that it dried my already dry skin out even more. Again, Paula’s Choice is coming through with the save with this step because when using the Skin Perfecting Liquid Exfoliant, my skin actually feels hydrated. Great for all skin types, this anti aging & collagen building liquid exfoliant is infused with green tea extract that helps to reduce redness and irritation. Over time it’s also supposed to give you a move even skin tone as well.
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting Liquid Exfoliant hydrates the skin; even though it’s liquid it kind of leaves my skin feeling as if I used a serum. It doesn’t exactly absorb into the skin as fast as a serum would but there’s like a thin coating of moisture on my face for about 15-20 minutes. For that reason I like to use this in the evening as more of a treatment after I take my makeup off rather than apply it before a makeup application. And when I follow up with the next product I am about to talk (which happens to be my favorite) about it is a recipe for a nice overnight treatment!!! Unfortunately I haven’t used this liquid exfoliant consistently enough to tell you if I’ve seen any drastic changes because of it but I do like to use it like every two weeks. Besides I usually exfoliate with something else while I’m in the shower about 1-2 times a week so its more of an added benefit in my skincare regimen.
“This silky, moisturizing serum with retinol revitalizes dry, dehydrated skin so it can look younger, healthier, and more radiant.”
How as I’m typing the name of the product I’m realizing again that this serum has retinol in it. I already told y’all HERE how I feel about using skincare products with retinol in it when I go outside but even with that I can still say this may be my favorite product that I’ve tried from the Paula’s Choice Skincare line! The serum is made to protect your skin from the environmental damage so I’m confident to use this serum in the daytime on the daily!
Now I’m usually used to using serums with thinner consistencies so I was surprised to see how thick the Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum really was. With that being said, I was also surprised at how such a thick serum can absorb into my skin so well. I love that it absorbs into your skin within about 2 to 3 minutes, perfect for my (rushed) morning routine.
In fact it’s so hydrating sometimes I forget if I applied moisturizer or not and I can admit there are mornings during my makeup application Im like oh shoot I forgot to moisturize. It’s a concentrated serum so a little goes a long way; I use just one small drop for each side of my face. Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Concentrate Serum glides across your face so smoothly and leaves it so radiant and yes, moisturized!
“This rich moisturizer returns radiance to dry, dull skin, while calming sensitivity.”
Now we’re back to another product from Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery line that I’ve use everyday for the last few months. This Replenishing Moisturizer is the perfect barrier for my face before my makeup application. It’s not too heavy to have your makeup sliding all over your face; like the serum the moisturizer also absorbs into your skin rather quickly while leaving it plump and hydrated. Sometimes for people with sensitive skin, the process of washing your face alone can be irritating to the skin but the Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer has the added calming and soothing benefits from chamomile.
“This specialized moisturizing face cream relieves stubborn and painful dryness with soothing antioxidants and locks in moisture by rebuilding skin’s protective barrier.”
As a part of that overnight treatment I was speaking of earlier I use the Paula’s Choice Clinical Ultra-Rich Moisturizer instead of the other one. When I am having one of allergy fits, my skin definitely takes a toll as well and that’s also when I need to bring out the big guns. Some times I’ll just go wash my face and put this Paula’s Choice Clinical moisturizer on around the house. I actually keep this one on the nightstand in the bedroom so even on those nights when one of those handy baby wipes are around to remove my makeup (don’t judge me lol) I still get to moisturize my face until I make it to the sink or shower. I can’t recall having it on for a straight twelve hours how Paula’s Choice says it would last but I can say when I wake up my face feels really soft and still hydrated when using it.
“This creamy blend of plant oils, emollients, anti-irritants and shea butter softens dry, rough skin anywhere on the body for velvety-smooth skin.”
In an effort not to use so much, I just apply the Paula’s Choice Clinical Shea Ultra-Rich Body Butter to my elbow and knees every now and then. I’m trying to hold onto this body butter until the Winter really comes. When I do use it my skin definitely remains moisturized for a long time (they say 12 hours). It does take a little elbow grease to rub into your skin but I’m hoping it’ll be just what I need when the cold and dry air comes to try and sabotage my skin into a itchy, ashy mess. Being that it’s formulated for all skin types and has the added benefits from Shea Butter, this body butter may just be what I need to defeat the upcoming Winter season.
“This gentle liquid treatment combines potent antioxidants and soothing anti-irritants to instantly relieve redness and calm sensitive skin.”
Although it’s formulated for all skin types, this product in particular is more geared towards people who has rosacea so I actually gave it to my girl Dee since she was diagnosed with that skin condition. I don’t really suffer from redness and thankfully I’m able to keep my inflammations under control more or less so I thought I’d share the love that Paula’s Choice Skincare has blessed me with. She’s pregnant too so I don’t know if the glow is from the baby or from the Paula’s Choice Skincare though but I told her when she’s ready she can leave a review directly on their website for the product herself.
“This rich, moisturizing face mask combines plant oils and antioxidants in a creamy, emollient-packed formula to calm redness, repair dryness and instantly restore radiance.”
I like to use the Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Moisturizing Face Mask about 1-2 times a week. I have used it overnight but most of the time I will put it on when I wake up to be rinsed after at least 20 minutes during my morning shower. You know if I forgot to put on my the Ultra-Rich moisturizer the night before (again don’t judge me), I have the mask to hit me with a boost of moisture to make up for my neglect. This goes on looking and feeling like a lotion, it doesn’t dry up or tighten up on you like a typical mask but for us with dry skin that’s exactly what we want to stay away from so the Skin Recovery Moisturizing Face Mask is perfect for my dry skin.
I’m highly appreciative for this selection of products I’ve been using and enjoying from Paula’s Choice Skincare. The texture of my skin has definitely become@@ softer and smoother. I’m no longer feeling the effects from the changes in this crazy New York weather nor does my skin feel like it’s lacking in moisture. All of Paula’s Choice fragrance free products that I’ve tried are both calming and hydrating to the skin. Trust me, your skin is nothing to play with, how you gonna rock makeup when your face ain’t right or at least trying to work on getting it there? Paula’s Choice Skincare makes sure to keep my skin as close to flawless as it can be allowing me the perfect canvas for a good beat. I always record how I put on my makeup, so let me know if next time during Skincare Sunday you’d like a full video demonstration for an updated skincare routine.
