New Hair Care Products, New Results and a New #WashDayWednesday [Giveaway]

What is up guys?  I know it’s been forever (well since August) but it’s definitely been a crazy last few months.  Not only did I neglect Kay’s Ways but I neglected my hair too.  Thankfully the Summer weather is the perfect season for wash and go‘s but besides those it was buns and braids as usual.  If you remember my Protective Styling post from last Summer pretty much nothing had changed, well except the products; y’all know I’m a hair care product junkie.

[Giveaway Alert – Stay tuned to the end of this post for a new cool product from Ouidad and your chance to get your hands on it for FREE!]

Neglect no more, I was too excited when my local beauty supply store stepped their stock game all the way up with some products I’ve been eying.  I’m so happy that more of the Black Owned brands that I’ve ordered online from Alikay Naturals, Mielle Organics and more are finally accessible in stores.  So yeah of course I bought some and used them this past weekend and most importantly so happy to be back with a brand new #WashDayWednesday to share them all with you guys!

OMG guys!  This was the product I was most excited about trying out the most and definitely the most expensive of the bunch.  This 8 ounce bottle of E’TAE CARMEL Deep Reconstructing Treatment ran me a cool $20.  Now if y’all know me I’d usually prepoo my hair with a concoction of conditioner and/or oils and call it a day but I’ve been seeing E’TAE’s dope promo videos all over social media and just had to try their top selling CARMEL treatment.

We’re talking exclusive business here people.  How I’m in the bss and I showed the lady the picture of the CARMEL from my phone.  She’s like yeah over here.  They actually keep just one on the shelf and when someone buys it they replace it with one from behind the counter.  Good sales play lady because that alone got me hype to use it!

Even though I’m just now getting up on game with E’TAE, I found out the company has actually been around for 15 years!  Kisha, the creating hairstylist and owner of E’TAE, was a salon owner who decided to transition her hair to natural hair.  Over the years she’s helped thousands of women transition.  Since I haven’t relaxed my hair since May of 2015 I could use ALL the help I could get right?!  I knew it was time for a reconstructing protein treatment but since my hair is protein sensitive I liked the idea that you do this treatment before shampooing your hair.

E’TAE CARMEL Ingredients

With a name like CARMEL you can imagine this product is hella sticky but with the all natural ingredients of honey, bananas and molasses what do you expect right?  The banana scent is really strong but not too overpowering; it actually smelled like it would taste pretty good.  Yeah I’m greedy lol

So I basically just wet my hair in my bathroom sink which you must do or this stuff will not move through your hair.  Using my prayer hands I took small sections and went section by section applying the CARMEL treatment throughout my hair.  I ended up leaving it on for about an hour before I jumped in the shower to wash it off.

With any protein treatment your hair will harden up but I didn’t have that feeling as if I touched it my hair would just snap off which my heart appreciates.  Protein Sensitivity it’s real out here y’all.

With it being so sticky and thick I was surprised to see how easy it was to rinse out of my hair especially since the directions tell you to rinse twice.  Since I thought it was a good time for a clarifying shampoo I went back to my ride or die choice of the Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo.  After rinsing my hair was left feeling lovely and strong but lightweight and clean at the same time.

I’m pretty impressed with my first try of the E’TAE CARMEL Deep Reconstructing Treatment and after some reviews I’ve read (because you know I wasn’t dropping $20 without some other opinions on it right) I’ve heard it gets better over time.  Y’all know I give it to you real so if it wasn’t worth the money I’d let you know.  I plan to use this about every 4-6 weeks as my protein treatment so I’ll definitely keep you guys posted!  With these prices I didn’t invest in the whole product line as shown in their video demos but after this experience with their CARMEL I’d love to try more from E’TAE Natural Products.

The Mane Choice Easy On The Curls Detangling Hydration Conditioner

Product Benefits []

●Gentle enough for daily use

●Promotes growth & retention

●Leaves hair feeling soft & tangle free

●Instantly hydrates & moisturizes

●Minimize damage & breakage

●Safe on colored treated hair

The Mane Choice has been killing the game with their products.  I really wanted to try products from their Tropical Moringa line but the selection at my beauty supply store was limited.  That didn’t stop me from picking up a few things from them though.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard the hair is a science before and with The Mane Choice products being created by a physician and a registered nurse I feel like I’m in pretty good hands when it comes to their hair care line.

This Detangling Hydration Conditioner definitely made it easy to finger detangle my hair under running water while removing the few single strand knots that I had.  My hair felt quite softer but not that nasty mushy soft; it was just enough.  With the added benefits of Biotin and Vitamin E I’m happy to add this product to help promote hair retention.

So yeah about that hair neglect…

It was time to mix up a new bottle of oils too.  I was taking the lazy route out and only using my ride or die Jamaican Black Castor Oil for my scalp and Eden Body Works Jojoba Oil to seal my hair after moisturizing it.  My bss had a nice selection of 100% natural oils from The Mane Choice so I picked up their Pure Sweet Almond Oil to add with my JBCO base.  Now that I think about it I’m gonna finish off the rest of the jojoba oil and add that in with the mix too!

Now the next item of my beauty supply haul is no stranger round these parts.  It was featured in  my February Favorites and Mo’ Empties, Mo’ Reviews and yes I raved about it both times.  The scent, how it makes my hair feel and the fact that it keeps my hair moisturized?! Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave in Conditioner is bae.  You know I had to use this as my L (liquid / leave in) in my LCO method which is what I use for my low porosity hair.

My hair doesn’t prefer heavy cream based leave ins but sometimes if it’s just liquid I don’t feel like it’s really doing anything.  Alikay’s Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner is the perfect consistency product to where you can feel a deep moisture going into your tresses.  The best thing yet is my hair stays moisturized and conditioned when I saw this on the shelf I definitely had to re-up on this product.  You know I love it so there’s not much more to say about it but feel free to check out my video to catch all the Alikay Naturals items I’ve tried by clicking here!

The Mane Choice makes it’s final appearance in this post as part of the C (cream) in my LCO method with the 100% Natural Pure Vegetable Glycerin.  If the CARMEL was my first most exciting product of my haul, the glycerin is fa sure my second.  I’ve done tons of research on it’s benefits; how it’s a humectant and basically helps to absorb evaporated moisture from the air into your hair.  Yes this had to be mine when I saw it next to the oils.

I plan to add this as a boost to any products I use as well as in a spray bottle mixed with water just to rehydrate the hair throughout the week.  This time around I used it in conjunction with this Luster’s You Be Natural Leave In that I’ve been using from one of my subscription boxes making it a perfect moisturizer for my hair to go into my 2 braids that I’ll be rocking but first I did let my hair air dry in a loose ponytail under my scarf overnight.

Yas! The home stretch is here and it’s time for the Oil, the icing on the cake to lock in all the moisturizing goodness I just added to my strands.  Even though I made the oil mixture I mentioned earlier, I only used it on my scalp.  That’s because I had another oil product I was so excited to try out all on it’s own.

I’ve been really enjoying the products that I’ve been testing out through the year from Ouidad so when they reached out to see if I’d like to try their latest product you know I was with it.  And it’s no secret that Ouidad is a pretty dope brand and their awesomeness extends to you too!  Keep reading about their latest innovative product and use the widget below to enter the giveaway!

Ouidad Mongongo Oil Multi Use Curl Treatment

Key Product Benefits []

  • Formulated without sulfates, parabens, or waxes, Mongongo Oil Multi-Use Curl Treatment is the first oil tailored to the specific needs of each curl type.
  • Forms a protective barrier on hair’s surface to lock in moisture and prevent damage from heat styling and UV rays.
  • Adds gloss and sheen to curls from root to tip.
Infused with oil from the Mongongo Nut and blended with Coconut, American Palm Seed Oil, and Broccoli Seed Oil, this fast absorbing liquid gold elixir delivers intense hydration to all curl types as it nourishes, restores natural luster, and protects against damage from heat styling and UV rays. Curls are soft, manageable, frizz-free, and illuminated with healthy shine.

While this may be another pricey product ($38 for 1.7 oz), the fact that I’m typing this up at 1:30AM and I just felt that my ends are not crunchy and dehydrated I’m definitely feeling it so far.  Even though my hair is in braids and even while braiding it, I make sure to pay special attention to the ends by spraying more of Ouidad’s Mongongo and then tying my satin scarf over my head before bed.

Since it’s a multi use item and made for all hair types, you can use the Ouidad Mongongo Oil as a leave in treatment, as a conditioner as a heat protectant and as a finisher.  It definitely added shine to my hair and helped to lock the moisture into my hair.  There’s a reason why it’s currently sold out on their website but I did also see it in the latest Ulta catalog so you can look for it there if you’ve been looking for a perfect lightweight finishing oil.

My hair doesn’t look or feel anything like it did when I started.  It was so dry and stiff, almost molded into that bun stance lol.  I’m so glad I got to nurture my hair and try all these new exciting products.  You know that Fall transitioning weather is the perfect time to put love back into your hair.  I’ve been so used to easy going wash and go’s with low (sometimes no) maintenance it feels so good to have manageable, soft, airy and lightweight, lustrous tresses right now!
