When it comes to mascaras aren’t we always looking for the next best thing? I know I’m constantly trying out new mascaras hoping to find “the one”. The one that will make you stop buying more, the holy grail of mascaras, that mascara you just can’t live without.
For me when using mascaras, I consider a few different factors. It has to
- be either lengthening or volumizing.
- be super black so the color of my lashes will pop
- separate the lashes (who want clumped up looking lashes???)
- have a wand that is comfortable in hand and easy to manuever through my lashes
I’ll be filming my first empties video of the year this upcoming weekend. So with me about to toss some of these used up mascaras why not share my thoughts of them with my fellow beauties right? This first roundup of Mascara Madness features items you can get from your local Sephora or Ulta Beauty but no worries, there will be another roundup coming soon with some drugstore mascaras as well.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara
What it claims:
A lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning mascara infused with olive esters to condition, treat, and protect lashes
Does it live up???
I wouldn’t necessarily call this a lengthening mascara. What I would say is your lashes are definitely more noticable. The volumizing and darkening from the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes is definitely a plus for your lashes.
When removing this mascara and sometimes during the day I would encounter flaky fibers of lashes that came out pretty easily, Beware as a contact wearer it is definitely not fun getting this in your eyes.
President’s Day Weekend I signed up for Tarte’s website to receive 20% off my first order. I didn’t complete the order since the discount was not valid on their new Tartlette palette which is what I was looking for.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
What it claims
One coat and lashes are full, defined and stretched to unbelievable lengths. Two coats and they’re reaching unbelievable heights of drama. Three coats and you’ll believe in magic.
Does it live up?
When I first tried the Better than Sex mascara I was not happy. It was way too wet, the smell kinda bothered me (has an ink like scent which is pretty common with mascaras). Fast forward about weeks later I decided to revisit the tube of mascara and my opinion did a complete 180.
The Better than Sex mascara has a good balance between lengthening and volumizing. And tat ink smell must be for how deep and dark your lashes will look after application of Too Faced’s mascara. I don’t recommend three coats of this though, could lead to your lashes clumping up on you though. Just do as I do and make a mascara combo for the look you desire.
Too Faced’s shipping is amazing. I forgot to mention in my haul how I ordered on a Friday and received my package that Monday!!! Plus I was able to score a 20% discount by signing up with their website as a first time buyer. Can we say #Winning?!!
There was a bit of a learning curve with the wand.
Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara
Get instant lash drama in a single coat, no clumping or flaking
Does it live up?
I’ve never met a Lancome mascara that I didn’t like so I had to pick up one of the Limited Edition special packaging mascara they released last year. I chose to get the Lancome Hypnose Drama, and drama is just what it brings. The wand of this mascara combs through your lashes separating, lengthening and darkening them; just what I’ m looking for in a mascara!
Honestly none I can think of at the moment, I freakin’ love Lancome mascaras and I want to try their newest mascara, the Grandiose at some point.
Tip – Best time to purchase Lancome cosmetics is at the counters when you get free gifts with purchase. That’s how I usually get their amazing eye makeup remover!!!
Now I don’t own too many things in my makeup stash from Benefit Cosmetics but I have tried all three of these mascaras shown. The most popular of the three would be the They’re Real mascara that is super lengthening. Hence the name, it’s supposed to make people think you’re wearing falsies. I personally like this mascara because it does a great job at separating and giving your lashes length. It’s not so dark so I would use this is a base and add a deeper more volumizing mascara on top.
The BadGal Lash is the mascara of the bunch that least excited me. It has this big ole bushy brush which is supposed to be everything for increasing the amount of lashes it would appear you have. The wand was just too fat for me and my hooded eyes for me to get it on clean and do a good job at achieving volume.
Benefit Cosmetics just released their new Roller Lash mascara which I am loving right now. Dare I say it may be better than the They’re Real mascara??? Yes this Roller Lash mascara is the truth. The wand has a Hook n Roll patented brush designed based off hair rollers. The wand definitely grabs onto and glides through your lashes by curling them up while locking that curl up to hold all day!!! With this mascara I don’t have to feel bad about not using an eyelash curler before applying my mascara because this does it for me! My only con is that I only have a sample but I will most definitely be picking this up in the full size!!!
What’s your favorite mascara??? Let me know in the comments.
