My first time at the makeup show was a great experience for me. I went solo dolo, all by my lonesome. This made it easy for me to stick to my list, get what I wanted and get out. And I did just that. As a first timer I didn’t know what to expect. Actually, I was just a tad bit scarred from the long lines at Imats back in 2013. But what I did know was that The Makeup Show event caters more to the pros only and there would be makeup at a discount so I was all there for it.
Yet after Sunday I realized it was so much more than that. Fellow makeup artists, whether professional or freelance like myself get to absorb so much knowledge during this event. There are seminars and hands on workshops offered to enhance your skills while being inspired by some of the best like Troy Surratt, Ashunta Sheriff and Wendy Williams’s makeup artist Merrell Hollis. I didn’t attend any of the workshops this year but I already have plans to do so next year for sure.
My intent in going to The Makeup Show this time around was to shop!! I had my gameplan all laid out. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me post a print out of the floor plan
. I was not playing!!! I had to make sure I spent my coins wisely and that I got what I came there for. The week leading up to the show I took a good look at the exhibitors and wrote out my list of the must have items (along with some maybes of course). I knew with me not having a pro discount with NARS, that would be the first vendor I hit up. And yes I scored all but 1 item on my wishlist from them but with that 30% off I wasn’t even mad at it.
One thing I was disappointed in was that line for Anastasia Beverly Hills. Yes we know she’s the current queen of brows and if you follow the Kay’s Ways YouTube channel you know I live for my dipbrow pomade (the demo is one of my top viewed videos on my channel actually, you can check that out here). I even met one of the beauties that we follow each other on Instagram there and she told me Anatasia was really nice and made waiting worthwhile by coming to the line helping people with brow techniques and all. Luckily, I already have the pro discount with her company so I can just order what I want online so it just didn’t make sense for me to stand there.
I was able to get stuff from Nigels Beauty, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Make Up Forever, Sephora, Smashbox and some brush cleaners from both Parian Spirit and Cinema Secrets. That was more than enough to have me leaving there a happy camper. I also saw the beautiful mzosofabolousTV from YouTube walk past while I was on the MUFE line but I could not remember her name for the life of me. I tell you one thing, that green hair is everthang in person. Love that mermaid look on her!
Overall I really enjoyed my time at the makeup show. I definitely caught some great deals. I am excited for future events to come and the possibility of interacting with others who share the same love and passion as I do in the beauty community. I’m hoping they do the pop up show during the holidays like they did last year. Be sure to catch The Makeup Show when it comes to an area near you. They’re usually in NYC (of course), Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Orlando and even Europe for all my internation pro muas!!! For more information check out their website at www.themakeupshow.com.
If you like to see all the beauty goodies I got, be sure to check out my haul video. Trust me, these pictures don’t do these products any justice!!!
