What’s makeup talk without talking about the tools it takes to get the look you want to achieve? It’s been a while since I spoke about a makeup brush here on Kay’s Ways so I decided to start a new ongoing series called, The Tools Tuesdays. Yeah I’ll still do Techie Tuesdays but I don’t talk about technology like every week so the same thing will go with this series.
Now I don’t have that many brushes from MAC Cosmetics, I tend to purchase these one at a time since they’re not that inexpensive you know. The first brush set I had was a gift I had from my bestie that she gifted me one Christmas many years back. Throughout my various moves I no longer have those brushes. I wasn’t as well versed in makeup back then so I was too careless with those gems. Boy I wish I knew what holiday set it was. Now as a makeup addict and brush junkie, It was definitely time to start my MAC makeup brush collection.
I love eye brushes that give precise application, especially for these hooded eyes. So far I have accumulated 3 of their eye brushes so let’s go through them right quick.
My first brush that I purchased was the MAC 266 – Small Angle Brush. I was in Soho sometime in 2013 and I went into the nearest MAC store looking for their dipdown fluid line to use for my brows. This was when I first started my makeup journey and was determined to get my eyebrows on fleek. I asked the guy that was helping me what the best brush to use to accomplish this fleekage with and he pulled this treasure. Fast forward almost two years late and I absolutely love my MAC 266 brush!!! When I’m using gel or pomades for my brows this is my first choice of what I’m using with the product. I’ve even used this same brush for powder products in my brows as well as to apply eyeliner on my lash line. Gotta love a multipurpose brush.
Speaking of multipurpose brushes and brows, my latest purchase (oh you haven’t seen the Collective Haulage that went down last week?? Check that out here) was the MAC 195 – their infamous concealer brush. So infamous this brush has been sold out at both the MAC stores I’ve visited in the last few months and online as well. So of course it remained on my list until I could get my hands on it. And it was so worth the wait!!!
The MAC 195 makes it easy to clean up your brows having the sides of the brush slanted with that perfect edge to erase your brow mistakes with concealer. The tip helps you create the perfect arch you would like to make for your brow shape. Although it’s a concealer brush I prefer to blend out my facial concealer with a damp beauty blending sponge but for brows it’s perfect for me.
That’s not all though, I told you it’s multipurpose right? I also use the MAC 195 brush to apply my cream bases on my eyelids. Whether it’s one of my color tattoos or my newly added to my collection paint pot, it lays that base down for you. I like to apply the cream product onto my lids with one side of the brush then blend it out and distribute the product evenly with the cleaner side of the brush. Works like a charm!
The third brush that I own from MAC Cosmetics is my MAC 219 brush – their Pencil Brush. I bought this brush from MACCosmetics.com in an effort to help my hooded eyelids get better definition when doing certain eyeshadow looks maybe like a cut crease or something to that effect. I also use the MAC 219 to smudge out eyeshadows underneath my eyes to give my looks that completed look. It’s also good to define that outer V area when you are trying to do a smoked out eyeshadow look.
As you can see the brushes from MAC Cosmetics are versatile and can be used for multiple purposes. The quality of the ferrels of the brushes are nice and sturdy and you know they will last a lifetime. It’s definitely worth the investment of some quality brushes that you know will effortlessly get the job done for you.
What’s your favorite makeup brush? As a makeup brush junkie, I would love to know your suggestions of what to consider to add to the collection next. I know I definitely want to get a MAC 217 brush at some point but for now I’ll stick to me $1 knockoffs from ebay, #dontjudgeme. Any other MAC brushes I should look into, maybe even a face brush. Even though their more expensive if they’re recommended by other junkies like myself I’m sure it’d be worth it 😉
Until next time, Stay Blessed Beauties!!!
